ONE UNIVERSITY, THREE CAMPUSES, YOUR CHOICE!

The spirit of North-West University is reflected in the way we unlock YOUR FUTURE and enable YOU to realise YOUR DREAMS. Whether you’re black, white, pink or purple, we care about your dreams and aspirations. And our slogan confirms it: It all starts here

The North-West University (NWU) consists of more than just the PUK campus in Potchefstroom. We also have campuses in Mafikeng and Vanderbijlpark (referred to as the Vaal Triangle campus).

The leafy Potchefstroom Campus is by far the biggest and oldest of the three campuses – with 50 600 registered students in 2016 (21 346 of which were full-time students on campus, while the remaining 29 254 students were enrolled for distance learning).

Although most full-time undergraduate classes are taught in Afrikaans, the PUK campus caters for English-speaking students as well. In fact, more than 80% of undergraduate programs are either taught in English or the Afrikaans medium classes are translated into English (in class) by our translators from the NWU Educational Interpreting Services. Of the three NWU campuses, the Potchefstroom campus accounts for the majority of NWU’s research output and National Research Foundation-rated researchers.

The Mafikeng Campus is located in the capital of the North West Province and boasts a truly international ambience with 424 students from 24 different nations enrolled there in 2016. It is the second largest NWU campus with 11 547 students registered in 2016 (of which 507 were distance learners). Mafikeng’s peri-urban location makes it ideal for the academic programs of this campus to focus strongly on rural development in the area.
