JOOLympics

Do you have legs for days? Are you perhaps the next pro-volleyball player? Whatever the case may be, Joolympics is a two day, fun filled event, that provides a barrel of laughs to each and every student in the name of charity.

Day one consists of an all-night bicycle peddling marathon, where hostel residents pedal to raise funds. This bicycle pedalling session lasts for 30 hours and an X amount of money is allocated to each hostel’s SRCS project for each completed kilometre. This money comes from private organisations, outside the university and these organisations are recruited by RAG students themselves.

Day two contains a range of activities where each hostel selects a representative, that will compete in various activities for the hostel. These activities include a chicken run, volleyball, real life foosball, and a race across an obstacle course carrying an egg in a spoon.

This is the first chance that the different residences receive to scope out their “sleep” hostel before RAG. There is a pot and punch competition, where each hostel pair selects a theme according to which, they decorate their stall, makes potjiekos and punch.

This is the ideal opportunity to get to know your “sleep” hostel a bit better, while helping to raise funds that could make a difference in someone else’s life.
